Bone Shaped Pinata

A bone shaped pinata will add some fun and intrigue to a dog party. Your guests will probably be wondering how such a game can be pulled off. And now, with the availability of dog bone shaped balloons, it is easier than ever to make a dog-themed craft.

The best way to have a dog treat pinata event would be:

* Invite a very small group of dogs (five or six maximum number)

* Only if all the dogs are well-behaved! You must make sure that none of the dogs has an issue with food aggression. You will be taking a chance if you plan to drop homemade dog treats into the middle of a group of dogs. But some dogs won't care if someone else gets there first. Think about keeping dogs on leash while the treats drop. Even the best behaved animal may turn territorial around food.

* If there are young children to actually take turns hitting the pinata and picking up the dog treats for their own pets.

What you need:

* One bone shaped balloon. Blow it up yourself. Do not fill it with helium because you will be letting the air out later. Tie off the balloon.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 cups water
  • Newspaper
  • Paint
  • String
  • Cardboard

Cut or tear the newspaper into 1-inch strips. Then, mix the flour and water together - it will form a paste. Dip the strips of newspaper into the paste and lay them around the balloon, covering it. Leave a small section uncovered at the top. Let dry. It will dry hard. Store the unused paste in a container.

After the first newspaper layer has dried, repeat the process. Do it a third time until you have three layers.

When it is all dry, pop the balloon and remove it. This will leave you with an open hard paper pocket.

Put the dog treats inside, and then seal the hole with more newspaper and paste. When it is dry, punch two holes in the top and thread a strong piece of string through.

The basic pinata is finished. Now you decorate!

Paint it (with acrylic paint), cover it with construction paper or crepe paper, or use crayons, markers, or whatever you would like.

Since it is a dog party pinata, it is probably better not to use feathers, beads, or other decorations that could fall off and possibly cause choking if a dog were to pick them up in its mouth.
